This lady came into the wedding with a mission to cause a scene! Maybe our protagonist's move was a little petty, but she kept this lady at arm's length for a very good reason.

I feel for the kids that had to sit next to her while she likely sulked in her white sequin dress.

Petty 28-year-old bride seats dad's mistress at the kid's table at her wedding, family split on her handling of the situation: “I really didn't want her to stir the pot with my family”
Growing up, some of my fondest memories from visiting my dad's side of the family were had at the designated kid's table during dinner time. Having our own table to entertain each other while the older folks talked about grown up stuff always felt so special. Even though my cousins and I are well into our late twenties and even early forties, we are still seated at the "kid's table" at family gatherings.
The kid's table where our protagonist seated her father's mistress was, unfortunately for her, no populated by adult children who are used to sitting together. Instead, it is was filled with actual rowdy kids and other random guests that the bride couldn't figure out where to put. If she had simply been her father's new girlfriend, perhaps this move could have been seen as petty, but once you read about their family history down below, you'll come to find that she totally deserved to be seated as far away from the main crew as possible.
